Armstrong Commercial Ceilings is looking for a CAD Technician to support our dynamic product design team and work collaboratively to develop inspiring ceiling solutions for our customers.  The CAD Technician will be responsible for assisting in the development of new products by tackling design challenges, and by preparing detailed and accurate product drawings from preliminary concept sketches, new product development projects or business support projects. This is a hands-on job where you will collaborate with Staff and Senior Designers and Engineers to commercialize products from initial concept to production.  This role requires a motivated individual to support the product design team in providing solutions to internal and external customers by creating drawings to address complex installation details, system layouts and  product details utilizing two-dimensional and three-dimensional design software.

 

Key Responsibilities of the CAD Technician:

  • Creating 3D CAD models and specification drawings, documenting dimensional fit tolerances and materials specifications, and checking assembly and system relationships
  • Utilizing knowledge of engineering practices, mathematics, material sciences, and production processes to complete drawings.
  • Maintaining engineering documentation by making corrections, revisions and changes to parts and drawings
  • Collaborating closely with engineers, industrial designers, internal process partners, external customers, and suppliers
  • Providing drawings and details to customers under direct supervision and review by design leads
  • Assisting project teams with the physical assembly of prototype installations for evaluation and testing purposes

 

Required Qualifications of the CAD Technician:

  • Associates Degree in CAD Engineering Technology or other related field
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of CAD experience in a similar role
  • Proficiency with solid modeling using parametric 3D CAD software
  • Experience using good drafting practices and procedures
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Experience with Deadlines
  • Basic knowledge of engineering practices and manufacturing processes

 

Desired Qualifications of the CAD Technician:

  • Experience using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD software
  • Experience with architect specified installed product
  • Experience developing CAD Details and Layouts related to products in different material forms, for example, sheet metal, solid wood, and veneer components
