Armstrong World Industries (AWI) is currently seeking an Electrical Designer to join our Design/Engineering team at our headquarters in Lancaster, PA. Reporting to the Manager, Manufacturing Technical Support Design, your responsibility as Electrical Designer will be to serve as a valuable technical resource providing Electrical Design support to our manufacturing facilities.


In addition, as Electrical Designer, you will be responsible for electrical design for manufacturing equipment/system design and fabrication.


Responsibilities of the Electrical Designer:

  • Create drawings of electrical schematics, control panel layouts, power, instrument, control cable schedules, grounding plan/grid, junction box wiring diagrams, control panel layout, wiring diagrams, substation equipment, power house and MCC building plans, installation details, and field wiring layouts for industrial equipment and systems
  • Perform minor to moderate engineering design computations and review results with internal and external customers
  • Design equipment and systems for reliability and ease of maintenance
  • Prepare drawing packages to support engineering specifications
  • Participate in pre-appropriation meetings to determine project requirements
  • Translate design requirements into specific design configurations
  • Participate in development of electrical design and process standards
  • Ensure designs are properly recorded and archived
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and field personnel in performing shop and on-site field check outs and commissioning of installed electrical systems
  • Diagnose operating problems and resolve process and equipment issues


Required Qualifications and Education of the Electrical Designer:

  • 5+ years of electrical design and industrial manufacturing equipment drafting experience
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Knowledgeable of NFPA 70 National Electric Code (NEC)


Preferred Qualifications of the Electrical Designer:

  • Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or BSMET/SMME (ABET accredited)
  • Allen Bradley PLC experience
  • Prior experience with application of Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing methodologies, Statistical Process Control and Team Facilitation
