As our HVAC Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and integration of HVAC systems in support of AWI's Healthy Spaces Ceilings and Wall Solutions. As a member of the Healthy Spaces project team, you will serve as the expert in HVAC and will provide technical expertise on building ventilation, airflow, codes and standards, and energy use to help influence the design of our commercial solutions.

What you'll be doing:

  • Consulting on HVAC systems and how they can best integrate with our ceilings and wall solutions
  • Analyzing HVAC systems and equipment in an effort to find inefficiencies and create solutions to optimize performance and increase operational efficiency
  • Performing building assessments including heating/cooling load calculations, energy efficiency and air quality through modeling, site visits, testing, surveys, and reports
  • Evaluating new and innovative technologies for potential commercial value, either as disruptive competition or prospective new products or integrations
  • Designing testing procedures and control equipment to accurately assess products and identify areas that require modification and further testing

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related
  • 5+ years of experience in HVAC systems design
  • Experience analyzing and assessing building airflow and ventilation
  • Hands on installation and construction skills and bility to lead projects and teams
  • Project management experience and demonstrated presentation skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BEMP or BEAP certification from ASHRAE
  • Lean Practitioner certification or experience utilizing Lean tools

 

What will make you successful:

  • Excellent understanding of ventilation types in commercial buildings, including codes and standards, and energy usage
  • Working knowledge of model building codes and standards, mechanical codes, including ASHRAE, SMACNA and NFPA
  • Assess and analyst performance of building airflow, ventilation, and heating/cooling demands
  • Familiarity Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and Indoor environmental Quality (IEQ) including ASHRAE, WELL, Fitwell, and LEED codes and standards
  • Solid understanding of air filtration and cleaning technologies (UV, BPI, etc.)
  • Experience with development and application of filtration media, filter elements, and ventilation products
  • Deep experience with application of various components used in HVAC systems
  • Expertise of HVAC system functions, heat transfer, airflow, and ventilation
  • Strong grasp of manufacturing processes and filter manufacturing technologies
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in commercializing IAQ technologies.
  • Proficient with writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to challenging questions
  • Familiarity with working on projects related to air purification technologies
  • Hands-on skills and experience with various types of HVAC systems
