As our Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Scientist, you will be responsible for being an expert in air quality and will collaborate with other teams at AWI in the development of air quality solutions, the assessment of air purification technologies in the market, and generating intellectual property and marketing content related with indoor air quality. You will also assist in AWI’s Healthy Spaces objective of broadening the scientific and practical understanding of how indoor air quality impacts human health and wellness. In addition, you work closely and collaborate with design and product teams to develop and implement innovative air quality solutions with the AWI Healthy Spaces Product Portfolio.

What you'll be doing:

  • Developing technology programs with internal and external resources and partners
  • Developing and implementing test plans and conducting and managing testing to validate new technologies
  • Performing engineering analysis to select the optimum design
  • Installing and monitoring test units and documenting and reporting test results
  • Maintaining professional and technical knowledge of controlling indoor air quality, filtration of particulates, ventilation, bio-aerosols, volatile organic compounds (VOC’s), and viruses
  • Conducting technology scoping workshops which result in 3-5+ year technology roadmaps
  • Providing IAQ technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to Engineering/Technology teams
  • Representing AWI in industry organizations including American Society for Heating Refrigeration Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Life Sciences
  • 5+ years of experience in measurement and analysis of indoor air quality in commercial buildings
  • Experience implementing and testing solutions that impact indoor air quality
  • Experience analyzing and assessing building airflow and ventilation
  • Demonstrated presentation skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Member of ASHRAE, Member of ASHRAE Technical Committees

 

What will make you successful:

  • Willingness to take on hands-on installation and construction work as needed
  • Solid grasp of indoor air quality design and renovation strategies in commercial buildings
  • Understanding of codes and standards for Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and Indoor environmental Quality (IEQ) including ASHRAE, WELL, Fitwell, and LEED
  • Deep Knowledge of impact of HVAC air cleaning technologies on IAQ
  • Experience with developing and applying filtration media, ventilation products, and filter elements
  • Experience with application of various components used in HVAC systems
  • Familiarity with HVAC system functions, heat transfer, airflow, and ventilation
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and filter manufacturing technologies
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in commercializing IAQ technologies
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Comfortable with presenting information and responding to challenging questions
  • Hands-on experience with various types of HVAC systems
  • Experience working on projects related to air purification technologies
