Armstrong World Industries (AWI) is currently seeking an on-call, part-time Test Technician to join our New Product Development team at our headquarters in Lancaster, PA. As Test Technician, you will be responsible for the effective and safe preparation and installation of test material as well as limited testing. 


As Test Technician, you will also be expected to follow a provided schedule of tests, unload materials, prepare and cut them for testing, install per documented methods, and tear down for disposal.  Additionally, you will also run mini fire and assist with other physical tests as necessary.


Note: This position is an “on call” opportunity, and you must be able to work on short notice whenever test material from the plant arrives.


Responsibilities of the Test Technician:

  • Move material using Walk Behind and Ride-on Forklift
  • Utilize wood shop tools to prepare ceiling samples
  • Scan documents for TAL archival storage
  • Prepare and install ceiling grid
  • Install test samples per ASTM test methods
  • Maintain basic product knowledge of ceilings
  • Verify material descriptions provided by customers
  • Perform mini fire testing
  • Create lab reports
  • Assist with sag and acoustical testing
  • Scan prior test documents for archival storage


Required Qualifications and Education of the Test Technician:

  • High school diploma OR GED
  • Ability to perform safety risk assessment and take proper action
  • Ability to install and remove suspended ceiling systems.
  • must be comfortable working with laboratory shop and test/measurement equipment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office, internal programs specific to the testing lab
  • Must be comfortable working with fire


Preferred Qualifications of the Test Technician:

  • Lift truck operator certification
