Armstrong Building Products (ABP), a division of AWI is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor at our ceilings plant in Macon, GA. The ideal candidate will encompass strengths in balancing maintenance work with the needs of a high-speed industrial manufacturing operation.

 

As Maintenance Supervisor, you will be tasked with providing sound direction and leadership to the maintenance team and for delivering effective supervision of maintenance department resources to ensure a safe, responsible and cost-effective manufacturing operation. In addition, you will be responsible for actively participating in process improvement initiatives while using innovative tools such as Lean manufacturing and equipment optimization.

 

Responsibilities of the Maintenance Supervisor:

  • Manage and improve equipment performance, reliability, and uptime
  • Supervise and direct unionized maintenance staff
  • Direct work of outside contractors
  • Plan and coordinate plant shut downs and major maintenance projects
  • Ensure safe work environment and promote an environment of continuous improvement
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs, establish and assign appropriate PM tasks to improve equipment uptime
  • Oversee staffing responsibilities including corrective disciplinary actions as well as hiring
  • Participate in capital improvement projects and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Analyze equipment and maintenance data using tools such as failure mode, effects analysis (FMEA), and root cause analysis

 

Required Education and Qualifications of the Maintenance Supervisor:

  • Technical degree or previous industrial maintenance supervisory experience desired or High School Diploma with appropriate experience
  • 5+ years industrial maintenance and optimization experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proven record of developing and implementing preventive and predictive maintenance and reliability programs and systems
  • Experience with continuous improvement processes and best practices
  • Deep knowledge of pumps, rotating equipment, piping and conveyors
  • Proficient with equipment maintenance techniques, such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), and Predictive and Preventive Maintenance Techniques
  • Strong employee management and project management skills

 

Preferred Qualifications of the Maintenance Supervisor:

  • Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), such as SAP
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Principles
  • Experience in ceiling, pulp/paper, plastics, or similar manufacturing industry
  • Reliability Centered Maintenance experience

About the Location (Macon, GA)

Our Macon Plant, one of twelve Armstrong plants in North America, employs over 400 people working on rotating shifts, 24/7, in the manufacture and shipment of acoustical ceiling tile to Armstrong's customers.  Located approximately 85 miles south of Atlanta, the Macon facility has 33 acres under one roof, or 1.5 million square feet of floor space.  It is the largest ceiling tile factory in the world.  The operations are complex, automated, use the latest modern management technology, and manufacture a wide range of commercial and residential ceiling products.
