Armstrong World Industries is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering team in Marietta, PA. Reporting to the Plant Engineering and Capital Manager, the Electrical Engineer will be responsible for providing technical services relating to manufacturing equipment and processes, including daily production line technical support. The Electrical Engineer will also identify and execute process improvements and cost reduction opportunities, and the design, management, and execution of capital projects for that production line, or value stream.

 

Responsibilities of the Electrical Engineer:

  • Provide control and instrumentation assistance to manufacturing value stream
  • Serve as technical resource to maintenance staff and assist with troubleshooting and training on programmable logic controllers (PLCs), servos, drives, and human machine interfaces (HMIs)
  • Plan and execute capital projects per agreed cost, schedule, and performance metrics
  • Program and upgrade hardware for production equipment including instrumentation, drives, PLC, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and HMI systems
  • Participate as member of the Plant Value Stream Team to drive resolution of common cause and special cause issues that negatively impact safety, quality, cost, and productivity
  • Investigate manufacturing issues in fabrication, board mill, or maintenance, and recommend corrective action
  • Consult with production personnel, gather and analyze data, develop corrective actions, and follow through on recommendations to evaluate effectiveness and sustainability
  • Serve as plant contact for AWI project teams outside the facility, represent needs of plant to AWI project teams, and communicate critical issues needing resolution back to the plant
  • Apply Precision Maintenance concepts and principals to all work performed
  • Share technical knowledge where appropriate to other plant personnel to elevate the organization’s understanding and performance

 

Required Qualifications and Education of the Electrical Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in controls engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics or similar field
  • 2+ years of experience in controls and electrical engineering in manufacturing environment
  • Experience with application programming and support, and project management
  • Previous HMI, Motor control, servo systems, and PLC (Allen-Bradley) experience
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and controls
  • Hands-on experience managing an industrial Ethernet network and knowledge of protocols such as Modbus, DeviceNet, and/or DH+

 

Preferred Qualifications of the Electrical Engineer:

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) certification
  • Lean Practitioner certification
  • Experience with WonderWare and PanelView, and data management systems
  • Experience with SAP, Minitab, and AutoCAD software, and pick-and-place robotic systems
  • Hands-on knowledge of FANUC robot capabilities and programming
