The Production Supervisor is responsible for the design and implementation of raw material and manufacturing systems that enables continuous process improvement within the Flexline Operation to achieve performance targets in the areas of Safety, Scrap, Quality, Downtime, Productivity and Cost Control.  The incumbent will have the technical expertise to initiate and lead significant process improvement activities, including, but not limited to, changes involving raw material utilization, mechanical, electrical, chemical and human elements.  The ideal candidate will have leadership abilities to assist the Value Stream Manager in acting as a catalyst and leader for significant organizational transformation. 

 

Reporting to the Value Stream Manager, this position requires well-developed professional skills, business knowledge and an awareness of the Fabrication and Specials manufacturing process.  Assignments are of significant scope and complexity and frequently involve production machinery, processes, procedures, systems, and policies that have a significant impact on plant profitability. While driving change, you will interact with Plant Supervisors, including Maintenance, Production, QA, Engineering and the Lab. 

 

What you'll be doing:

  • Safety: Your personal safety and the safety of your crew is your #1 priority. Display a commitment to all parts of the AWI Safety System. Keep yourself and your crew 100% compliant in all required safety training. Follow all plant safety rules-you set the example for your crew. Execute the Accident and Environmental Reporting Procedure as needed. Notify appropriate management personnel regarding any incidents and accidents. Develop and administer action plans for high risk employees.
  • Quality: Ensure all material shipped to customers meet quality specifications. Hold your crew accountable for making quality product. Ensure standard settings and standard operating procedures are being used/followed. Ensure process checks, board inspections and whiteboard and manufacturing system entries are being completed. Follow-up on scrap RCFA's (root cause failure analysis) and quality hold events to ensure they are complete.
  • Volume: Plan ahead and set the next shift up for success.  Ensure operator maintenance is completed on time. Follow-up on downtime RCFA's to ensure they are complete. Identify and implement maintenance and process improvement ideas.
  • Cost: Schedule your crew to minimize overall cost to the department. Be efficient during no material downtime. Manage crew training and ensure cross training and skill depth of associates.
  • People: Know your people, their strengths and weaknesses. Recognize their strengths, develop them beyond their weaknesses. Set high expectations and hold people accountable to meeting those expectations. Track employee incidents and issues, coach/mentor your employees, follow-up on and resolve issues that your people identify to you. Establish periodic one on one feedback sessions with the operators

 

What will make you successful:

  • Three (3) years of relevant technical, manufacturing or operation experience in ceilings manufacturing industry or similar continuous manufacturing operation.
  • Ability to work rotating shift work including night and weekends.
  • Prior supervisory experience.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in technical field (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering), business, or related field or commensurate experience
  • Knowledge and practical experience applying Lean Manufacturing or process improvement principles to enable organizational transformation.
  • Proven ability to implement and audit systems to drive the utilization of technical and support systems to achieve manufacturing results.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation).
  • Prior work experience in a union environment.
