The estimated base salary range for this role is “106,000 to 135,000” per year.

Under the guidance of the Plant Manager, the Technical Service Manager is responsible for the effective management and coordination of the plant chemistry, process engineering, and lab resources and plant quality assurance.  This includes Process and Chemistry support including the application of good science, New Product Development, Lean Support, Quality Assurance, Six Sigma, Cost Reduction Planning and Business Process Management for the Marietta Plant. It is accountable for providing the leadership to develop the managing systems for these areas and providing the organizational effectiveness to improve and sustain these systems.  Leadership responsibilities include aligning the resources described above, with the plant’s vision, mission, principles and values and for implementing the necessary systems to motivate and enable these resources to help achieve the vision.

 

Manages the following:

  • 8 Chemists/Process Engineers
  • 1 Plant Quality Coordinator
  • 1 Salary Technician
  • 2 Hourly Technicians

 

Key Process (Ownership/Participation):

  • Promotes the Plant Safety Process by leading the process and maintaining a high level of awareness and operating discipline for all plant safety policies.
  • Develops the departmental goals consistent with Plant, Corporate and Operational goals and provides the leadership for the planning process to meet these goals.
  • Manages own organization; guides and advises personnel in interpretation of Plant and Company policies and the Union contract.  Helps resolve non-routine personnel problems.
  • Actively supports and engages in the Lean transformation and related efforts, including daily Gemba Walks, Quality Glass Wall, VSM sessions, Driving MDI and HOP, and creation and use of Standard Work
  • Oversees the continued evolution, development, and execution of plant quality processes, such as the daily board reviews, Q &S reviews, technical and quality assessments, and IPQA performance and attainment.
  • Develops and manages effective communication process for own organization.
  • Develops organization so that they operate at the right level of work, and so that good science is being applied in all areas.
  • Promotes the implementation of MDI, daily excellence and the use of support tools such as Six Sigma efforts and use of Lean tools and concepts.
  • Manages the oversight process that ensures compliance to product requirements.
  • Act as plant contact to Technology Department
  • Works to promote good employee relations by interacting with employees frequently and discussing and helping with problems or complaints.
  • Provides for and promotes regular communication between their organization, maintenance and the business units.
  • Recommends and provides leadership support to the implementation of new process improvement projects related to safety, process effectiveness and cost.
  • Keeps abreast of technical developments and advances in appropriate fields.  Devises and/or recommends their application where considered advantageous.
  • Continually provides for assessment and feedback of employees’ performance. Develops organization and individuals using the dialogue process.
  • Promotes excellence in housekeeping, using and applying 5S tools.

 

Organizational Relationships:

  • Receives guidance and feedback from the Plant Manager
  • Works closely with the Plant Operations Manager (Asst. Plant Manager), balance of the Plant Management Team and Value Stream Teams
  • Manages the Chemistry and lab support, Quality Assurance
  • Works closely with the Technology leadership team
  • Is an active and engaged member of the Technical Network, and the Boardmill Network when appropriate.

Requirements:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, quality, engineering or related discipline
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience
  • 5+ years of plant chemistry, process engineering, and quality assurance experience
  • 3+ years of experience leading a technical team
  • Experience training and coaching others on process improvement methods
  • Strong facilitation and project management skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Excellent analytical, communications, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree
  • Six Sigma Black or Green Belt certification
  • Lean certification
