Job Output  

The Process Engineer supports the value stream/plant by providing hands-on technical support, project management, and process improvement leadership so that the plant meets its manufacturing goals and continuously improves beyond best practices in safety, quality, cost, and effectiveness. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 

 

  • Serve as Project leader primarily for medium to large-scope projects including cost reduction, new product development, and process improvement.  
  • On the line observation of issues, project leader for key improvement projects, work with other functions to troubleshoot issues. 
  • As an “owner of the business” investigate improvement opportunities and initiate manufacturing process improvement projects through the proper channels.  
  • Be an advocate for the Quality Systems and the customer. 
  • Share the practical knowledge of science and technology at all levels of the manufacturing organization for improved plant performance. 
  • Lead cross-functional teams to achieve improvement objectives. 
  • Assist with and at times lead RCFA investigations to determine the root cause of process failures related to material usage or process control. 
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership in applying process improvement tools such as 8-step problem solving, Lean, Six Sigma, Design of Experiments, and statistical process control and use these tools to identify and improve plant performance.  
  • Monitor and audit process control initiatives. 
  • Continuously coach the production operators in the use of process control techniques, methodologies, and equipment capabilities.  
  • Support plant safety process by actively engaging in safety audits and risk assessments. 
  • Create and revise raw material specifications as needed to meet Value Stream and end-user customer requirements. 
  • Provides support to all aspects of the Value Stream process including integrated projects.

Education and/or Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science 
  • 3+ Years’ of technical experience in a Manufacturing environment preferred

About the location (Pensacola FL)

Our Pensacola Plant, one of twelve Armstrong plants in North America, employs 200+ people working on rotating shifts, 24/7, in the manufacture and shipment of acoustical ceiling tile to Armstrong's customers worldwide. The Pensacola Plant was originally built in 1929 to produce insulating building material.  

Pensacola is the westernmost city in the Florida Panhandle. Pensacola is a seaport on Pensacola Bay, which is protected by 52 miles of sugar white barrier islands on the emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico. A large United States Naval Air Station, the first in the United States, is located southwest of the city and is the home of the Blue Angels flight demonstration team and the National Naval Aviation Museum.
