Reporting to the Arktura Solutions Manager, the CAD Project Specialist/Designer will bring together the technical product knowledge, digital technology expertise, and CAD skills to drive sales demand.  By utilizing technical skills, product knowledge, and an organized project workflow, the incumbent will be responsible for the initial project review, technical support, completion of project drawing packages and takeoffs, as well as the overall project delivery.  Focus will need to be balanced between working on multiple project requests at one time versus collaborating with the Sales Team and our customers.

What does a CAD Designer do?

  • Works to gain initial project qualification, product information, scope, and location of ceiling solutions in plans.
    • Reviews and analyzes initial cases in both Salesforce and drawing documents provided for projects.
    • Serves as the point of contact for all new requests and ownership of SFDC efforts.
    • Establishes communication plan with the Project Manager for process and deliverables.
  • Manages project flow.
    • Provides project guidance to sales representatives and customers to support all members of the team to ensure project is completed on schedule.
    • Maintains and archives internal and external communication for each project using SFDC and Outlook.
    • Prepares final packages for all projects including a quote, drawing package, and submittal sheets.
    • Sends all packages to Sales Team for distribution.
  • Manages document control for all estimates.
  • Generates Request for Information (RFI), where appropriate.
  • Processes change orders and additions on key projects.
  • Works with in-house resources to establish cost and price on custom items.
  • Obtains current pricing from Sources as required to prepare estimates as listed above.
  • Reviews bid requirements thoroughly and asks follow-up questions.
  • Inspects drawings submitted for accuracy and reviews with Project Manager.
  • Recognizes problems or issues with customer-submitted drawings and clarifies requirements before completing drawings.
  • Reviews incoming orders for accurate drawings and updates to proposal; ensures that orders have corresponding quotations and validates pricing.
  • Provides excellent communication to customers related to their order status from order receipt to order shipment.
  • Develops an understanding of customers’ needs and take actions to ensure that such needs are met.
  • Creates positive customer experience with internal and external customers during entire order life cycle, which may include order revisions, special delivery requirements, expediting requests and other customer project requests.
  • Identifies and offers alternatives to resolve problems.
  • Inputs custom sample requests and supports development and design of sample.
  • Supports technical planning and execution of ongoing product integration.
  • Develops Best Practice Standard Work to ensure project documentation and process improvement opportunities for the team.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree with an emphasis on Design, Architecture, or Mechanical field or additional relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • 3-7 years of Rhino 3D experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ceiling solutions across all business units in the company, along with company policies and practices.
  • Knowledge of and experience with parametric modeling.
  • Demonstrates good drafting practices and procedures.
  • Proficient in using Adobe Acrobat for PDF file editing.
  • Able to use an architect specified installed product.
  • Proficient in 3D modeling.
  • Able to develop Rhino 3D details and layouts related to products in different material forms.  For example, sheet metal, solid wood, and veneer components.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe, Teams, and Zoom.

Plant Environment – This position operates in a manufacturing setting and can be subject to extreme cold and hot temperatures; uneven walking surfaces with cords, tools, and other obstacles; intermittent loud noises; and dusty or dirty conditions. Required PPE includes hard hat (when required), safety glasses, earplugs, steel toe/composite boots, and fall protection.
