The estimated base salary range for this role is “$85,000 to $98,000” per year.  
Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience and other relevant factors (salary may be adjusted based on geographic location)

Armstrong World Industries (AWI) has a job opportunity for Project Engineer in Columbus, OH area. The regional Project Engineer will be responsible for leading and executing capital projects relating to manufacturing equipment, processes, buildings, and infrastructure.  The Project Engineer will have the opportunity to work closely with various teams within the organization, including AWI’s manufacturing, Innovation, New Product Development, plant, and operations staff, along with outside suppliers.  The role will be based out of our Hilliard Ohio plant and require travel to our Newark, Johnstown, and Hebron plants depending on the scope and phases of the projects.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading, developing, estimating and executing major capital projects per agreed cost, schedule, and performance
  • Specifying equipment, working with suppliers, designing, procuring and installing assets to build new production lines within existing facilities or new facilities
  • Investigating problems with process and equipment and recommending corrective action
  • Applying sound mechanical principles to all work performed
  • Actively participating as a member of a multifunctional project team executing a variety of capital projects from concept to asset installation and start-up
  • Participating in Lean events to drive rapid process improvements
  • Participating, mentoring, and developing mechanical engineers and maintenance personnel on technical and engineering best practices and precision maintenance

What will make you successful

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • 5 yrs experience in technical engineering position
  • Ability to lead projects and teams
  • Proven ability to communicate and integrate well across organizational functions
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and presentation skills 
  • Ability to come up with innovative ideas
  • Hands on installation and construction skills
  • Ability to travel daily to Ohio facilities
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time to AWI Lancaster, PA headquarters, suppliers and tradeshows

What will make you stand out

  • Direct experience with project planning and execution in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous project management experience
  • Experience in Metals Fabrication Manufacturing plants
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) certificate
