The estimated base salary range for this role is “$75,000 to $90,000” per year.

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Finishing and Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for effective coordination and supervision of production and maintenance activities at the Johnstown Plant.  The incumbent will provide management, coordination, and continuous improvement for all aspects of manufacturing, including safety culture, quality processes, schedule adherence, workforce, and product development initiatives.  This position will provide effective management of maintenance activities including storeroom management and work order and preventative maintenance plan execution to minimize downtime.  He/she will be accountable for meeting objectives in the areas of safety, quality, deliveryand cost.

What you’ll do

Safety

  • Maintains safety awareness through activeemployee engagement and positive reinforcement.
  • Drives good housekeeping to ensure a clean and safe work environment, striving for 5S.
  • Timely reporting of all near misses and first aid events, encouraging good catches, risk assessments, and root cause elimination
  • Ensures employees completion of all required safety training.
  • Leads execution of monthly team safety requirements – including completion of behavior-based safety observations, near miss reporting, safe work permits, safety meetings, pre-shift safety inspections, departmental inspections, etc.
  • Educates and coaches team members on safe operating procedures and behaviors and provides reinforcement and feedback where appropriate to drive desired behaviors.
  • Effectively communicates the company’s stand on safety throughout the Operations Department to ensure employees believe in and behave in a manner that supports our stand that all accidents are preventable, safety is everyone’s responsibility, and that working safely is a condition of employment.
  • Performs reporting and investigation of all safety incidents, driving to root cause and permanent resolution.

Quality

  • Ensures quality andcompliance of product to technical specifications and requirements.
  • Audits quality systems to ensure compliance to prescribed.
  • Collaborates with Quality to communicate customer feedback to the workforce, implement corrective actions, and improve overall plant quality systems.
  • Co-owns NCR process.
  • Understands and communicates customer expectations throughout the Operations Department, and ensure all products meet customer standards and requirements.
  • Ensures timely and accurate production to schedules in order to meet or exceed delivery to promise.
  • Ensures operational procedures are followed to product specifications, and quality metrics meet customers’ needs.
  • Performs root cause analysis with the involvement of operators on all quality issues and resolve.
  • Trains operators on critical thinking skills, and coach through resolution.
  • Participates in customer visits (both onsite and at customer locations) to better understand customer needs and requirements.

Talent Development

  • Monitors and enforces all plant and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Provides candid feedback on expectations and performance to all members of team on regular basis.
  • Actively leads and builds effective work teams to increase plant performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintains documentation, track, counsel, and execute coaching and corrective action when performance issues occur.
  • Reviews, tracks, and modifies individual training plans based on individual and shift needs.

Delivery

  • Provides overall supervision for Johnstown’s manufacturing processes.
  • Manages performance of production employees by providing performance feedback, guidance, and hands-on support
  • Administers discipline and positive feedback where necessary and appropriate.
  • Collaborates with leaders in the plant to manage daily scheduling and sequencing of product workflow for plant value streams.
  • Uses Kronos workforce management to assign schedules, approve time-off, and ensure correct time allocation to jobs.
  • Plans and schedules basic maintenance.
  • Planning work orders; ordering and kitting materials; auditing work to ensure it is completed to standards defined in the job plan.
  • Identifies special equipment requirements and safety precautions.
  • Oversees complex work requests that require application of basic engineering fundamentals and use of basic project management skills.
  • Develops detailed master job plans for critical repairs – creates a library of critical job plans to ensure effective execution of tasks and improve planning efficiency.
  • Communicates status of work orders, improvement efforts, performance results and spending levels as appropriate to increase knowledge and awareness in all associates. Frequently and effectively communicates status of current and upcoming general plant and project work to production and staff groups.
  • Coordinates weekly and down day plans and schedules.
  • Publishes maintenance PM’s weekly and closes all PM’s. Updates PM content and frequencies.
  • Controls storeroom operation through use of on-line computerized maintenance management systems (SAP).
  • Develops and implements processes for continued improvement of stores operations and management of inventory value.
  • Researches parts and equipment in support of the maintenance department needs.
  • Evaluates storeroom order quantities, reorder points, with other plant personnel utilizing a validation and approval process.
  • Instructs new employees in storeroom function and procedures.

Cost

  • Recommends quality and operational efficiency improvements.
  • Implements Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Creates standard work and update standard work with the involvement of operators.
  • Leverages standard work to minimize variation and waste.
  • Develops and implement productivity projects / programs to enhance processes.
  • Drives waste out of operation.
  • Ensures resources (labor, materials, and time) are utilized appropriately to meet production goals.
  • Executes role redesign, as required.
  • Gathers input from and engage all team members in productivity initiatives.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervisory responsibility for day-shift operations (5:30am-3:30pm) with carry-over, as necessary.
  • Manages work of up to 20 hourly production associates, shifting labor between work cells as demand and shipments dictate.
  • Manages work of up to four hourly maintenance technicians between first shift and second shift.
  • Fulfills supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

What will make you successful

  • Computer proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Kronos, and SAP or similar MRP system.
  • Basic project management skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and complete multiple competing tasks.
  • Thorough knowledge of plant business system processes, such as raw material flow, project planning, production work cells
  • Working knowledge of process improvement methods
  • Bachelor's degree, technical degree, or equivalent experience in first-line supervision with an emphasis on process improvement or maintenance.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment

Plant Environment – This position operates in a manufacturing setting and can be subject to extreme cold and hot temperatures; uneven walking surfaces with cords, tools, and other obstacles; intermittent loud noises; and dusty or dirty conditions.  Required PPE includes hard hat (when required), safety glasses, earplugs, steel toe/composite boots, and fall protection.
