Job Output
Under the supervision of the Operation Manager, the Pretreatment and Wastewater Operator is responsible for the proper use and care of the Pretreatment equipment on the Powder Coating line, the Dry-Off oven, the RO water system, and the Wastewater Operation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
General Duties
-
Commit to and follow the facility Mission, Vision and Values that support the AWI Operating Principles as an individual and team.

Attend and participate in all required company training programs.
Pretreatment and Wastewater Duties
-
Operate all pretreatment and wastewater equipment including rinses, sprayers, baths/tanks, titration station, RO water system, filter press, reactor tanks, pH probes/system, and various pumps throughout the system.

Operate machinery or stations as instructed by the Team Leader to meet scheduled demands.

Support the development of standards for wastewater equipment, pretreatment equipment, and dry-off oven.

Ensure standard recipes are working as intended and verify that the settings do not need adjustments to improve the efficiency of the process.

Reduce waste by learning the details on how the equipment functions.
-
Learn the effect of the acid and bases on the pH of the water, the effect of the various chemicals required on the properties of the wastewater, and the effect that the quality of the pretreatment process chemicals/water have on the parts that come out of the pretreatment/dry-off oven.

Make appropriate running decisions to prevent excessive defects and/or downtime.

Develop a knowledge of pretreatment effect on the powder coating process.

Keep accurate records of production, waste, quality checks undertaken.
Environmental, Health, & Safety

Ensures the water being released to the city is within specifications required by the city, state, and federal levels.

Immediately react to any out of spec. water output to prevent water from being released to the city when out of spec.

Immediately notify the correct personnel of any issues with the water quality of output water or input water.

Follow all Company, OSHA Safety, and EPA Environmental Policies.

Participates in safety related events/trainings/processes.

Conform to all company policies and procedures.

Maintain clean and organized work area.

Proper cleaning and maintenance of equipment.

Report any safety/environmental incidents.
Quality

Ensure that the standards for quality, output, safety etc. are adhered to and improved upon.

Troubleshoot issues that are within your knowledge and control. Decide quickly to contact more resources for issues outside of your knowledge and control.

Check the quality of the parts post pretreatment and dry-off to ensure they are reaching proper level of cleanliness and dryness for the operation.

Monitor aspects of the pretreatment equipment that could affect the product quality using devices, standard work, and knowledge of the process.

Understand when a raw material is at standard quality or of good quality vs when there is an issue that needs to be addressed.

Qualifications

Basic computer skills including Excel, & web-based applications to enter data regularly and accurately.

Prior manufacturing, assembly, material movement, or powder coating operations experience preferred.

Ability to learn and understand the PLC operating screen and data output screens.

Understand your internal customer base (Powder Coating Booth, Sublimation Line, Assembly, and Crating) and external customer base (Customers and City of Johnstown Water). Be customer oriented; possess the ability to react to the customers’ needs while following company procedures.

Direct knowledge and demonstrated understanding of Johnstown plant products and processes is preferred.
-
Knowledge of metal manufacturing materials, fabrication processes, and machinery preferred.
-
Must be flexible and be able to respond with a positive attitude to changing demands and conditions.
-
Must be able to effectively communicate with many areas of the plant/company during meetings, presentations, and various conversations on and off the floor.

Attention to detail and understand/adjusting to minor detail changes.
-
Ability to learn how to operate a forklift and other company vehicles.

Basic PPE required: safety glasses, earplugs, and steel toe/composite boots. Specific PPE & training will be provided for activities requiring additional accommodation.
