As our Quality & Technical Services Manager, you will be responsible for the adherence of technical specifications and specification writing of our radiant, security, MetalWorks products, existing and new product development (mockup, samples), and for providing input on design and manufacturing.  

 

You will also be accountable for developing, implementing, sustaining, auditing, and improving the plant’s quality management systems in accordance with Company guidelines and in alignment with the plant’s vision, mission, principles, and values. You will also be a key plant resource in interacting with the engineering design firms, mechanical installers, Architectural Specialties (AS) metal leaders, center of excellence leadership, and general contractors.
 

 

What you'll be doing:

  • Serve as an active member of the Plant Leadership Team, partnering with other managers to discuss and resolve non-routine issues and challenges
  • Document specification into standard operating procedures with manufacturing planning teams
  • Perform advanced quality planning on custom projects through mockups and by using measuring tools and equipment
  • Serve as engineering and technical resource to project managers on new custom products and existing product improvements
  • Interpret paint application capability readings (L,a,B, millage readings, adhesion testing) and manufacturing process capability studies (Cp, CpK)
  • Develop, implement, sustain, and audit robust quality management systems
  • Lead quality assurance activities: implement quality systems and infrastructure to improve overall customer experience, claims performance, product and packaging quality and defect detection
  • Provide training and ensure competence of plant personnel
  • Assist with troubleshooting and corrective actions and provide recommendations
  • Own plant’s change management systems process to include testing and compliance processes
  • Own external quality reporting and technical performance of supply chain quality performance
  • Perform margin risk management analysis and own manufacturing / project management poor quality avoidance measures
  • Review building plans, take off drawings and installation drawings for compliance
  • Coordinate design for manufacturability and project timing with manufacturing
  • Ensure excellent communication exists between customers and Steel Ceilings.
  • Coordinate, process, and track orders through various stages of purchasing, manufacturing, and shipping
  • Prepare AutoCAD drawings for both standard and custom products and any additional documentation to be submitted; ensure quality and accuracy to customer’s specifications
  • Promote positive employee relations by frequently interacting with the hourly workforce
  • Promote continuous learning and skill improvement, develop current and future leaders, and ensure all team members operate at the right level of work
  • Direct technical contributions to the center of excellence leadership and planning teams
  • Guide communications with test systems, NPD, quality, capital, and innovation leaders
  • Leads marketing communications efforts on presentation of new product offerings for the center of excellence (timing, launch, specifications, and technical data)

 

What will make you successful:

  • Strong technical skills in mechanical, manufacturing processes, and product testing
  • Robust capability analysis skills
  • Knowledge of thermal dynamics and radiant technology
  • Working knowledge of quality management systems
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with AutoCAD, inventor, and BIM/RIVET
  • Working knowledge of MS Office including Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of commercial ceilings and walls and their technical requirements (aesthetics, acoustics, fire rating, structural, etc.)
  • Understanding of metal fabrication and the various components to design and manufacture
  • Familiarity with fluid dynamics with the ability to read piping drawings and pipe schedules

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or similarly related field
  • 3+ years of manufacturing operations experience

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in radiant ceiling or radiant floor design
