The estimated base salary range for this role is $72,000 to $95,000 per year.

Under the guidance of the Plant Manager, the Technical Services Manager is accountable for the development and subsequent effectiveness of the plant quality management systems.  This position provides leadership on a plantwide basis to create an environment of process control and improvement, based upon standard work, to assure that finished projects conform to established quality requirements and technical specifications. The role will be a key resource interacting with the contruction services, plant operations, and corporate quality oversight. The Technical Service Manager will partner with Business Operations Support to commission equipment, qualify new products, and set standards for new & existing assets and products.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reviews existing products and their specifications.
  • Documents specification into standard operating procedures with manufacturing planning teams.
  • Performs advanced quality planning on custom projects through mockups, use of measuring tools and equipment.
  • Serves as engineering and technical resource to project managers on new custom products and existing product improvements.
  • Interprets paint application capability readings (L,a,B, millage readings, adhesion testing).
  • Interprets manufacturing process capability studies (Cp, CpK).
  • Communicates with clients, as required.
  • Develops, implements, sustains, and audits robust quality management systems to ensure key product quality measures are achieved through controlled and predictable manufacturing processes.
  • Leads quality assurance activities; implements quality systems and infrastructure to improve overall customer experience, claims performance, product and packaging quality and detection of defects.
  • Provides training and ensures competence of plant personnel who make product quality decisions; assists with troubleshooting and corrective actions; provides recommendations relative to disposition of material.
  • Owns the plant’s change management systems process to include testing and compliance processes so that critical-to-customer product attributes are maintained or improved upon
  • Owns the external quality reporting and technical performance of supply chain quality performance.
  • Responds to qualification processes in the new product development process.
  • Responsible to represent margin risk management analysis and owns manufacturing / project management poor quality avoidance measures.
  • Reviews building plans, take off drawings and installation drawings for manufacturing compliance.
  • Coordinates with manufacturing the design for manufacturability and project timing.
  • Ensures excellent communication exists between customers and Steel Ceilings.
  • Coordinates, processes, and tracks orders through various stages of purchasing, manufacturing, and shipping.
  • Provides support and direction to the other radiant design engineers.
  • Promotes positive employee relations by frequently interacting with the hourly workforce to discuss and assist with problems or complaints; encourages direct reports to establish and maintain similar work relationships.
  • Promotes continuous learning and skill improvement, develops current and future leaders, and ensures all members of the team operate at the right level of work.
  • Assesses and provides feedback on performance of direct reports.
  • Interfaces effectively with all levels of the organization, including but not limited to plant leadership, management team and hourly workforce.
  • Serves as an active member of the Plant Leadership Team, partnering with other managers to discuss and resolve non-routine issues and challenges.
  • Thinks strategically about growth of products, manufacturing equipment and processes.

 

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Directs communications with corporate test systems, new product development, quality, capital, and innovation leaders.
  • Directs involvement with project management teams to design, develop, execute, and document center of excellence (security and radiant) product portfolio improvements.
  • Leads marketing communications efforts on presentation of new product offerings for the center of excellence (timing, launch, specifications, and technical data).

 

Travel:  5% determined by project requirements

 

Qualifications

  • Strong technical skills in mechanical, manufacturing processes, product testing.
  • Strong data analysis skill, Minitab a plus.
  • Working knowledge of quality management systems.
  • Strong customer focus with experience working closely with customers.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude; experience with AutoCAD, inventor, BIM/RIVET a plus.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office including Excel and Word.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Consistency in organization, accuracy, and ability to meet commitments.
  • Knowledge of commercial ceilings and walls and their technical requirements (aesthetics, acoustics, fire rating, structural, etc.) a plus
  • Understanding of metal fabrication and the various components to design and manufacture a plus.
  • Ability to work in a small office atmosphere with a team approach attitude.

Work Environment

  1. Office Environment – This position operates in a professional office environment and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. No PPE is required.
  2. Plant Environment – This position operates in a manufacturing setting and can be subject to extreme cold and hot temperatures; uneven walking surfaces with cords, tools, and other obstacles; intermittent loud noises; and dusty or dirty conditions.  Required PPE includes: Hard hat (when required), safety glasses, earplugs, steel toe/composite boots, and fall protection.

 

Education and/or Experience

  • BS in Engineering or related technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ of experience in an industrial, production environment.
  • Experience with the development of new products.
  • Experience with providing engineering support and problem-solving on manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with the application of process improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing.
  • Experience facilitating or leading kaizen events.
  • Experience with managing customer claims.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing environment.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  •  ASQ, Certified Quality Engineer or other professional quality certification desired.
  • Six Sigma Certification strongly desired
  • Project Management certification desired.
