As our Director of Operations Excellence, you will be responsible for collaborating with plant leadership teams to develop, lead, and manage AWI’s continuous improvement strategy with a focus on safety, lean, maintenance reliability, manufacturing excellence, and process capability. Your key deliverables include driving a focused company-wide manufacturing strategy to improve plant reliability, scrap, and productivity.


You will also be responsible for developing an assortment of projects and initiatives that align with achieving full safety, quality, delivery, and cost KPIs that support our productivity and growth targets. In addition, you will be providing direct supervision of a team of 6-10.


Note: Up to 30% domestic travel may be required


What you'll be doing

  • Championing fundamental lean thinking across operational leaders and executors
  • Developing lean subject matter experts and capabilities across operations
  • Implementing digital tools to expand capability/accuracy of manufacturing processes
  • Driving manufacturing efficiency and enabling rapid innovations
  • Providing leadership, management, and collaboration skills to institute a lean culture and aligned to sustainability initiatives
  • Ensuring demonstrated executive presence and purposeful communication channels
  • Tracking results, driving execution, and ensuring alignment and employee engagement
  • Applying knowledge and expertise of Agile and Lean manufacturing practices
  • Implementing Agile and Lean Managing Systems (Gemba walks, value stream mapping)
  • Supporting the development and execution of AWI’s EHS strategy
  • Ensuring compliance to AWI and regulatory standards
  • Developing a mindset and culture of zero injuries based on risk assessment
  • Achieving high standards of 5S and housekeeping
  • Identifying wins and improvements, substantiated by impact analytics
  • Developing and executing phased strategies and tactical deployment programs
  • Achieving operating plan results for: full safety, quality, cost, and productivity
  • Developing critical business processes, managing routines, and KPIs
  • Managing a portfolio of opportunities for a robust pipeline of innovations and initiatives that achieve growth and productivity expectations
  • Driving reliability and maintenance best practices including PDM, PM, TBM, and Precision Maintenance
  • Achieve manufacturing financial returns and performance metrics
  • Participate in the development and execution oof the manufacturing strategic plan
  • Driving strategic initiatives and identifying and shaping strategic opportunities
  • Applying Agile and Lean tools and methods to achieve results
  • Developing and mentoring the organization in a broad lean toolbox including SMED, Kaizen, TQM, TPM, Poka Yoke, etc.

  • Familiarity with international operations and ability to drive change across multiple cultures and geographies within large-scale distributed organizations
  • Deep understanding of all facets of manufacturing and supply chain processes
  • Maintenance and reliability experience


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or related OR equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience in senior operating roles within the manufacturing and/or service intensive industries
  • Previous experience as a Plant Manager of a large complex integrated process
  • Mastery in Lean tools and TPM
  • Expertise in identifying improvement opportunities, measuring impacts, quantifying ROIs, and setting priority activities into work-streams
  • Proven experience setting stretch targets and road maps and with driving rapid change
