Armstrong World Industries (AWI) is currently seeking a Maintenance and Reliability Manager to provide leadership and continually improve our Maintenance and Reliability initiatives. As Maintenance and Reliability Manager, you will be tasked with providing technical expertise to the ceiling manufacturing plants and lead initiatives to improve equipment performance, reliability, uptime, and costs. 


As Maintenance and Reliability Manager, you will also be responsible for actively participating in process improvement initiatives using innovative tools such as Precision Maintenance, Lean manufacturing and equipment optimization. In addition, the chosen candidate will be responsible for meeting the following KPI goals:  improved manufacturing safety performance, improved manufacturing efficiency (PR – Plant Reliability, OEE - overall equipment effectiveness), reduction in cost of reliability and asset life cycle costs, improving condition of assets, including plant infrastructure, and utilization of precision, predictive, and preventative maintenance practices. 


Responsibilities of the Maintenance and Reliability Manager:

  • Develop and execute strategic plans for maintenance and reliability for manufacturing
  • Own and drive maintenance and reliability methodologies throughout organization
  • Partner with manufacturing to integrate precision and TPM techniques into AWI's maintenance and reliability processes
  • Provide technical expertise and reporting to manufacturing sites
  • Facilitate joint development of reliability systems, specifications, initiatives, and programs
  • Assist with development, recruitment, and retention of maintenance leadership
  • Organize and lead various ABP networks (stores, PdM)
  • Identify and deliver best practices across the organization and communicate successes
  • Train leadership as "Reliability Champions,"; drive recognition process and benchmarking
  • Measure, maintain, and communicate division's reliability results
  • Assist with development and support of reliability-related capital planning and approval
  • Facilitate the creation of reliability standards, templates, and job aids
  • Provide support for accident investigations, risk assessments, and other audit activity
  • Lead application of scientific methods in cause analysis and reliability redesign process
  • Contribute to reliability organizations, peer groups, and technical conferences
  • Drive sustainability of results across network
  • Manage small group of engineers, project managers, specialists, and other resources assigned to divisional reliability
  • Direct activities of ABP Reliability Steering Team, Maintenance Manager Network(s), other networks, work teams, and project teams


Required Qualifications and Education of the Maintenance and Reliability Manager:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related; experience will be considered in lieu of a degree 
  • 10+ years of manufacturing maintenance and reliability experience
  • Expertise in all aspects of maintenance excellence and engineering life cycle design
  • Experience with continuous improvement processes including Lean Manufacturing
  • Conduct and participate in numerous Kaizen events directed at driving continuous improvement
  • Strong project management skills
  • Experience with equipment maintenance techniques, such as Precision Maintenance, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and Predictive/Preventive Maintenance Techniques
  • Proficient with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), such as SAP
  • Prior experience with coaching and mentoring others
  • Proven leadership history with ability to establish relationships and influence senior leaders


Preferred Qualifications of the Maintenance and Reliability Manager:

  • Experience in ceiling manufacturing
  • Lean or Six Sigma certified
  • Operations leadership and supervisory experience
