Armstrong World Industries, Inc. has a job opportunity for a Production Supervisor 3rd shift (10:45pm- 7:00am) to be located in Macan, GA.  The Production Supervisor will be responsible for the effective management and overall performance of production activities at the plant in the areas of safety, quality, process effectiveness, financial performance, customer service and organizational development. Additionally, the Production Supervisor will work with other plant resources and operating personnel, the Production Supervisor is responsible for leading their crew in achieving process, line and plant performance manufacturing goals through technical and operating improvements.

What you’ll do

  • Leading, managing, hiring, and training a production crew of about 20 employees
  • Promoting and ensuring a safe work environment, including training the crew and adhering to Company and governmental policies and regulations
  • Ensuring production goals are met or exceeded, including yield, throughput, and quality
  • Participating in continuous improvement initiatives using tools such as Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement techniques 
  • Meeting objectives for Plant Reliability measures (% uptime, % line rate, % scrap rate)
  • Ensuring equipment maintenance and optimization, providing training for the crew and handling equipment troubleshooting
  • Preparing daily production schedules and ensuring schedule adherence 
  • Ensuring environmental compliance
  • Working with maintenance and engineering to optimize the equipment performance and reliability

 

What will make you successful

  • Recent work experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Highly effective communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and successfully execute tasks in accordance with business objectives
  • Proven ability to implement change in manufacturing and/or maintenance systems
  • Basic computer proficiency with email and with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Basic knowledge of key OSHA regulations (such as Confined Spaces, Electrical Safety, Energy Isolation and Machine Safeguarding)
  • Proven incident investigation skills and familiarity with structured tools (such as Root Cause Failure Analysis or 5 Why)
  • Ability to and willingness to work different shifts

 

What will make you stand out

  • At least 3 years of full-time production supervision experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor's degree in business, technical or related field
  • Experience working with a unionized workforce
  • Knowledge, understanding and implementation of process improvement methodologies

About the location (Macon GA)

Our Macon Plant, one of twelve Armstrong plants in North America, employs over 400 people working on rotating shifts, 24/7, in the manufacture and shipment of acoustical ceiling tile to Armstrong's customers.  Located approximately 85 miles south of Atlanta, the Macon facility has 33 acres under one roof, or 1.5 million square feet of floor space.  It is the largest ceiling tile factory in the world.  The operations are complex, automated, use the latest modern management technology, and manufacture a wide range of commercial and residential ceiling products.

Macon, also known as the "Cherry Blossom Capital of the World", is in the heart of Georgia and marks a historical crossroads in the south.
