The estimated base salary range for this role is “$112,000 to $140,000” per year.  
Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience and other relevant factors

Armstrong World Industries, Inc. (AWI) has an opening for a Value Stream Manager located in Macon, GA. Under the guidance of the Assistant Plant Manager, this position is responsible for effective management and coordination of the Fabrication Value Stream activities. Responsible for developing and maintaining systems for continuous improvement in all processes.  Responsible for effective performance of production, maintenance, engineering, quality assurance, and environmental compliance for the business units.  Responsible for providing the leadership to drive the plant safety process and the Value Stream's efforts towards attainment of the plant’s goals and objectives.

What you’ll do

  • Promotes the Plant Safety Process by leading the process and maintaining a high level awareness and operating discipline for all plant safety policies.  
  • Manages own organization; guides and advises supervisors in interpretation of Plant and Company policies and Union contract.  Helps resolve non-routine personnel problems.  Assists in first step of grievance.  Handles second step of grievance procedure.  
  • Maintains quality performance of assigned organization through use of systems management and Lean principles.
  • Maintains high level of customer awareness throughout the business units and focus on delivering material that meets requirements.
  • Routinely visits production operations, especially trouble areas; confirms reasons for mechanical downtime, progress of schedules, and product quality characteristics; makes decisions when necessary and calls on staff personnel for advice or assistance as deemed necessary. Coaches supervision in these areas.
  • Determines manpower requirements to meet production schedules.  
  • Interviews applicants for open positions and assists in selecting qualified employees.  Provides general departmental induction and ensures proper indoctrination and job training.  
  • Works to promote good employee relations by interacting with employees frequently and discussing and helping with problems or complaints.  Encourages supervisors to establish and maintain similar relationships.  
  • Promotes achievement of the plant’s goals and maintains participation from business unit, maintenance and production employees.  Participates in and supports the Lean process.  
  • Provides for training of employees; promotes continuous skill improvement; and provides for supervisor candidacy training.  
  • Provides for and promotes participative management and employee involvement through frequent employee meetings for communication and problem-solving, training, recognition, information sharing and interpretation, and delegation of authority and responsibility.  
  • Promotes excellence in housekeeping; establishes Lean events to reduce effort and cost to maintain housekeeping.
  • Provides for and promotes regular communication between maintenance and production. Facilitates the on-going integration of maintenance and production activities.  
  • Recommends and manages implementation of Lean events, related to safety, process effectiveness, and cost.  
  • Continually provides for assessment and feedback of supervisor and technical resource performance.  
  • Implements the elements of the OD plan including the maintenance, process control, and organizational strategy and is responsible for the integration of the three strategies.
  • Receives guidance and feedback from the Assistant Plant Manager.
  • Works closely with the Plant Leadership Team, especially other value stream managers, communicating business unit performance, improvement activity, and issues.  
  • Manages the Value Stream which consists of five production supervisors.  The Business Unit includes Fabrication MPIF and our paint mixing area.

About the location (Macon GA)

Our Macon Plant, one of twelve Armstrong plants in North America, employs over 400 people working on rotating shifts, 24/7, in the manufacture and shipment of acoustical ceiling tile to Armstrong's customers.  Located approximately 85 miles south of Atlanta, the Macon facility has 33 acres under one roof, or 1.5 million square feet of floor space.  It is the largest ceiling tile factory in the world.  The operations are complex, automated, use the latest modern management technology, and manufacture a wide range of commercial and residential ceiling products.
