Armstrong World Industries has an opportunity for a Value Stream Specialist, to be located at our Macon, GA facility. The Value Stream Specialist, reports to the Value Stream Manager and is assigned to a Value Stream. The Value Stream Specialist is responsible for providing management, coordination and continuous improvement of the manufacturing process, including, but not limited to: cost targets, schedule adherence, quality processes, manufacturing process capability, maintenance integration, product development initiatives, and overall support to the First Line Supervisors of an operation.  This position is primarily responsible for the value-adding process.

 

First-Line (day to day) Responsibilities:

  • Execute projects from the Value Stream teams.
  • Facilitate the daily GEMBAs within the Value Stream.
  • Coach the production operators in the use of process control techniques, methodologies, and equipment capabilities.
  • Countermeasure follow-up, facilitate RCFAs and complete of special cause analysis
  • Coordinate activities around major shutdowns and holiday periods
  • Coordinate daily maintenance activities in the operation
  • Integrate maintenance work and production work around Down days including prioritizing the work and scheduling production activities
  • Integrate operations with production planning; raw material flow, inventory, packaging, quality of material and GIP.
  • Coordinate new product development (NPD) activities in the operation
  • Engage outside resources to drive results in operations
  • Perform a variety of tasks to assure the proper supervision of the assigned operational area as needed.

 

Improvement Responsibilities:

  • Develop, improve, document and deploy coordinating processes and associated performance metrics
  • Update SOPs, specifications, trouble shooting guides and other process documentation
  • Develop and improve internal plant communication processes between operations, maintenance, lab, logistics, and ABPT
  • Develop and improve manpower utilization processes
  • Drive improvements in operations through effective Down day planning and execution
  • Coordinate Maintenance activities and improvement projects

           Manage the completion of RCFA’s in the operation

 

Key Skill Sets:

  • Project Management and organizational skills
  • Ability to direct and coordinate the work of others
  • Effective Written and Verbal Communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of plant business system processes such as: work order process, raw material flow, project planning, production, Down day planning, work rules, or union contract
  • Integration skills to leverage operations, maintenance staff support, internal and external suppliersProficiency in Excel, Word, Power Point, Mini Tab, etc.
  • Ability to act as a  Relief Value Stream Manager
  • Have working technical knowledge of the following manufacturing technologies:
  • Lean Manufacturing
  • DMAIC
  • Six Sigma
  • Kaizen
  • Ability to pull and work with data sets from multiple sources including; Data Historian, Infinity, Access, SAP, and other plant systems to identify opportunities and accurately assess situations.

 

Education:

  • Required: High school diploma or GED
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree

 

Experience:

  • Required: 5 + years in manufacturing w/Supervisory or Leadership experience
  • Preferred: 10+ years in manufacturing with Supervisory experience and technical experience

About the Location (Macon, GA)

Our Macon Plant, one of eleven Armstrong plants in North America, employs over 400 people working on rotating shifts, 24/7, in the manufacture and shipment of acoustical ceiling tile to Armstrong's customers.  Located approximately 85 miles south of Atlanta, the Macon facility has 33 acres under one roof, or 1.5 million square feet of floor space.  It is the largest ceiling tile factory in the world.  The operations are complex, automated, use the latest modern management technology, and manufacture a wide range of commercial and residential ceiling products.
