The estimated base salary range for this role is “$53,000 to $73,510” per year.  
Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience and other relevant factors

Under the supervision of the Technical Services Manager, this position is accountable for the overall effectiveness and day to day operations of the Plant Lab.  This position manages two hourly technicians and is responsible for supporting SQDCP initiatives.  The successful candidate will work closely with process engineers to troubleshoot quality issues as well as to develop and execute tests to support cost reduction and new product development initiatives.

What you will do

  • Reports to Technical Services Manager
  • Leads a team of two hourly lab technicians.  Assign daily tasks, provide direction and prioritization, and audit execution of daily tasks.
  • Audit technician raw material testing, gauge infrastructure/documentation, Certificates of Analysis records, raw material specifications, etc
  • Functions as the primary contact for technical requests from R&D scientists and sister plants.  Translates needs into technician-executable work. 
  • Lead small to mid-sized cost reduction efforts or new product development projects
  • Train new technicians, create standard work documentation,
  • Manage relationships with third party regulators (UL).  Ensure compliance to documented procedures & own corrective actions.
  • Assists in claims investigations as necessary.
  • Execute process improvement projects to improve productivity of the team.
  • Manage test budget, ensure proper accounting for external tests
  • Backup responsibility for Claims Manager and/or operations supervisors.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision to two (2) hourly Lab Technicians.

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ Years of technical experience in a Manufacturing environment
  • Commitment to ensuring a safe work environment for self and direct reports
  • Strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work. 
  • Strong Computer Skills- Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to work independently and make autonomous decisions when necessary
  • Ability to build relationships, which will be essential with such activities as training team members and transferring knowledge

  • Experience with managing people (directly or indirectly)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science
  • 5+ Year of technical experience in a Manufacturing environment
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the specific ability to work in teams
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to troubleshoot processes
  • Experience with using lean concepts to improve processes.

Most work is performed in a plant production environment with some office/lab area work.  Must be able to clearly communicate, listen and help problem solve production issues and minor employee issues.  Incumbent will also be required to interact with production supervisors, hourly production employees, R&D and other management groups / services from both within the plant as well as outside the plant.
