Under the supervision of the Logistics Manager, this position is responsible for the effective quoting (costing), planning and scheduling of specials and standard items on the FlexLine at the Marietta plant.  This position is responsible for processing special orders, including item setups in all required systems.  The position is also responsible for managing raw materials, packaging, and goods in process (GIP) for the specials business.  This position also manages the packaging, paint materials and GIP for standard items running on the FlexLine, and must work effectively with the other planner to set requirements for Boardmill family capacity. 


Directly supports and actively participates with manufacturing and supply chain functions at both the plant level and individual operation level in a way that satisfies customer orders, manages inventory assets effectively and facilitates effective manufacturing operations at the plant and servicing Distribution Centers.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Ensures safe performance for self and plant personnel through adherence to all regulatory requirements and plant safety policies.  Consistently ensures personal safe behavior at all times.



  • Quotes specials using MR plant capability matrix and current costing files within the established time goal for returning quotes
  • Process orders for special items accurately and within the established timeframe for returning promise dates
  • Coordinates system setup for new to Marietta sku’s/items and for changes to current items with operations leadership and process engineers
  • Responsible for working with the Information Center team to make appropriate financial changes to GIP inventory levels, so that actual inventory matches system inventory levels
  • Performs daily production reconciliations to ensure that planned orders are eliminated from SAP so as to not give false ATP to customers.



  • Completes all daily processes in SAP, including negative ATP and MD06/DRP process for FlexLine SKUs
  • Monitors and adjusts schedules, raw materials, and GIP daily
  • Accurately maintains planned production in master scheduling file(s) and SAP
  • Maintain appropriate GIP inventory by coordinating GIP supply from all sources.  Determines and implements disposition of excess GIP items.  Oversee GIP in Building 25
  • Manage raw material procurement and inventories for the FlexLine and other Fabrication processes and assist in year-end inventory audits/counts
  • Communicate with Customer Focus Center regarding requests for improvements to ship dates for SPO’s/FlexLine items
  • Monitor capacity of the FlexLine/Fabrication to ensure that lead time requirements are met for specials and standard items running in Fabrication
  • Work with the other Logistics Planner and the Raw Material Coordinator closely to ensure balance in work flow through the plant, smooth processing of orders, and sensible usage of Raw Materials and GIP
  • Work with the other Logistics Planner to evaluate base stock and repetitive master schedule for the plant and FlexLine operation
  • Participates in developing FlexLine capacity analysis
  • Track lead time performance on special orders and takes action to ensure we meet lead time goals
  • Partner with FlexLine/Fabrication to maintain ongoing 2-way communication and support to understand customer needs, capacity, scheduling, production, and material issues and opportunities and to implement improvements to the specials processes
  • Perform schedule activities for the Phoenix/Building 7 and SoundSoak/Building 3 operations, including promise dates for ATP to the CFC/customers, working with the Fabrication business units to appropriately staff/run the operations and manage inventory for both operations
  • Maintains schedule adherence metrics and publishes the results
  • Participates and leads process improvement efforts
  • Train to fill the role of Boardmill/Fab Planner to fill vacation/business travel time for the other planner



  • Ensure that Inventory counts are valid, and verify/communicate accuracy of Trailer Tracking data.  Follow up as necessary to resolve discrepancies
  • Utilizing economic order quantity logic, decide when orders are needed for packaging and raw materials.  Determine safety, cycle and base stock levels for Raw Materials and Paint Materials
  • Communicate supply issues/shortages as appropriate to proper personnel
  • Order Packaging and Raw Materials through SAP and maintain personal contact with vendors to ensure timely delivery.  Work with Central Transportation personnel and/or directly with carriers to ensure timely delivery.  Utilize over the road, LTL, intermodal, rail or vendor transport to deliver goods at cheapest delivered cost to Armstrong
  • Verify appropriate storage locations for all material; review, manage and modify locations as necessary.  Work with operations personnel to delineate storage space.
  • Provide guidance to Supervisors and Raw Material Handlers to ensure timely unloading of trailers to minimize detention/demurrage charges
  • Receive materials into SAP promptly and accurately
  • Work with Logistics Planner and Raw Material Coordinator to optimize flow of raw materials into the plant
  • Work with Purchasing to issue non-conformances to vendors/carriers as required for product quality or delivery issues, and participate in supplier evaluation process
  • Serve as vacation relief to Raw Material Coordinator as needed



·       Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, Powerpoint, & web based applications.  Need ability to become proficient quickly in software packages such as SAP (SAP experience preferred)

Education and/or Experience Qualifications                                                  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain Planning/Industrial Engineering/Operations Management or 7 years of related experience.
  • Direct knowledge and demonstrated understanding of Marietta plant production processes and/or Marietta plant specials process is preferred
