We have a great career opportunity for a Production Supervisor who can effectively motivate and manage a team of about 10 people responsible for working at our new mineral wool manufacturing plant in Millwood, West Virginia. This individual is responsible for the Supervision and accountability for production personnel, processes and systems, driving productivity and process improvements by utilizing Lean, Six Sigma, Armstrong management and behavioral safety systems and processes.

 

The Production Supervisor supports our Millwood, WV plant, where you will function as part of the team working to create a new culture, ensuring production goals are met or exceeded, promoting safety and environmental compliance, and implementing process improvement initiatives using innovative tools such as Lean manufacturing.  This position reports to the Production Manager and is responsible for leading and managing daily production on one of our manufacturing lines.  In addition, this position will work on a rotating schedule and may require overtime and weekend work.

 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Direct supervision of approximately 10 shift production and maintenance workers
  • Driving 'zero tolerance' safety value through daily safety contacts with employees by providing leadership, coaching and training to employees regarding safe and efficient performance of their jobs, conducting weekly safety audits and engaging crew members to correct items on the spot and/or submit safety work orders.
  • Directing and coordinating product flow through the department in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Receiving order requirements and scheduling products to (a) meet customer order requirements; (b) maximizing integrated operation; (c) optimizing maintenance attention for preventive maintenance and needed repairs.
  • Utilize SAP to enter production and shipment of goods.
  • On a daily basis reviewing production schedule for revisions to better meet customer demand and to determining back-up plans during production problems.
  • Constantly touring production operations; ensuring good housekeeping is maintained; checking quality of output at various production stages, operation of equipment, progress against schedules and potential for miscellaneous production problems.
  • Serving as relief for operators during breaks and lunches on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for meeting assigned budgets including labor, department procurement, shipping and materials costs.
  • Effectively using various manufacturing and distribution systems including SAP, WMS, Infinity as well as Microsoft Office applications and company email system.
  • Actively supporting Lean Manufacturing activities by participating in Rapid Improvement Events; facilitating participation of crew members.
  • Driving 5S and continuous improvement projects throughout the facility in accordance with the Armstrong Lean Manufacturing Model.
  • Proactively driving positive employee relations and communications through daily one-on-one interactions, crew huddles; holding crew meetings focused on departmental safety, communications, department performance updates and listening to employee concerns.
  • Ensuring effectiveness of employees through routine coaching, managing individual and crew performance expectations, fostering accountability for employees' personal involvement in safety, Lean and other process improvement teams.
  • Effectively and objectively managing formal performance reviews, positive feedback and coaching-for-improvement discussions.
  • Coordinating employee cross-training and development initiatives.
  • Working closely with the maintenance department to ensure smooth operation of machinery

  • Computer and business systems literate
  • Respond to off-shift calls and issues as necessary
  • Excellent customer service skills and abilities; able to travel as required to interface with vendors, transportation providers and other plants
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills to motivate and manage direct reports to achieve high performance
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, SAP, WMS
  • Strong analytical and project management skills.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering, Business Management or related field
  • 3 to 5 years as a supervisor in a manufacturing environment
