The estimated base salary range for this role is $95,000 to $130,000 per year.
Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience and other relevant factors (salary may be adjusted based on geographic location)

Reporting to the Senior Manager, AS Design & Development, the AS Senior Computational Designer plays a crucial role in developing, verifying, integrating, and executing computational tools for design projects. This position supports the Operations Excellence Team and collaborates with Computation and Manufacturing teams to create custom solutions and prototypes. Key responsibilities include maintaining and developing Python Rhino/Grasshopper-based parametric tools, ensuring their functionality, and supporting ERP integrations by translating product configurations into data for REST APIs. The role also involves verifying parametric tools for custom design projects and analyzing machining steps and sequencing to ensure smooth manufacturing processes.
What you'll be doing
- Gains expertise in the entire customer facing AS value stream (Estimating through shipment; construction services through manufacturing processes; across a multi-plant network) and drive speed to the customer through streamlined business processes.
- Engages in process development, either through collaboration or independently, to create custom solutions and prototypes that expand the known knowledge set of computation to manufacturing.
- Oversees maintenance and development for Python Rhino/Grasshopper based parametric tools, ensuring consistent functionality and improvements as new variables and limitations are encountered.
- Supports custom projects via parametric design tools in ShapeDiver, Python Rhino/Grasshopper, or Rhino.Inside ACAD.
- Supports ERP integrations across the networks, translating product configurations into from the Rhino/Grasshopper tooling into data that can be received by REST APIs.
- Assists Computation and Manufacturing teams on new script development for local solutions.
- Assists with fabrication and validation of custom solutions.
- Assists with the training and implementation of new tools and processes.
- Find and leverage best practices in delighting the customer across the AS network (speed, accuracy, communication, process development, etc.).
- Evaluates and implements automation and improvement opportunities from Construction Services à manufacturing drawings.
- Evaluates and implements automation and improvement opportunities from Construction Services à CNC programming.
- Evaluates and implements automation and improvement opportunities for crating design.
- Measures/quantifies improvements in lead-time reduction, speed to the customer, accuracy of information, enhanced communication, redundant process steps eliminated, and workhours saved.
- Drives productivity improvements, creates appropriate productivity metrics and dashboards, and provides hand-on support to ensure success.
- Seeks, finds, and/or reveals opportunities for alignments and optimizations within the network of acquisitions.
What will make you successful
- Expertise in Grasshopper/Rhino + parametric design with Python and/or C# programming.
- Basic proficiency in two or more of the following: SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, Revit
- Understanding of architectural specification process.
- General comprehension of digital fabrication in architecture.
- Expertise in Grasshopper/Rhino + parametric design with Python and/or C# programming.
- Basic proficiency in two or more of the following: SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, Revit
- Comfortable in high tolerance CAD/CAM production via CNC as well as the production of relevant shop drawings.
- Ability to develop, document and produce custom prototypes.
- Detail oriented to maintain data integrity across multiple avenues.
- Results oriented with strong integration skills; ability to work across organizational lines and achieve business objectives through personal initiative and energy.
- Strong facilitation and project management skills.
- Effective collaboration skills with all levels, and all departments, in the organization to address conflicts, resolve disagreements, and facilitate change.
- Ability and desire to continue to learn innovative technologies and deploy technology across the AS manufacturing network.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in design related field.
- 5+ years practical experience in manufacturing, engineering, product development and/or product design.
- Experience with and in applying Digital Fabrication methods and practices preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in process development and process improvement.
